Tijdens de recent gehouden Game Awards domineerde de indie-titel Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 de avond: ontwikkelaar Sandfall Interactive sleepte in totaal negen awards binnen, waaronder Game of the Year, Best Art Direction, Best Game Direction, Best Narrative, Best Score & Music, Best Independent Game, Best RPG en Best Debut Indie. Actrice Jennifer English won Best Performance voor haar rol als Maelle.

Andere opmerkelijke winnaars waren Battlefield 6 (Best Audio Design), Arc Raiders (Best Multiplayer), Hades 2 (Best Action), Hollow Knight: Silksong (Best Adventure) en Donkey Kong Bananza (Best Family). Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves kreeg Best Fighting, Mario Kart World won Best Racing/Sports, en Final Fantasy Tactics werd Best Strategy. In mobiele en doorlopende categorieën gingen Umamusume: Pretty Derby en No Man’s Sky met prijzen naar huis. The Midnight Walk won Best VR/AR, The Last of Us seizoen 2 kreeg Best Adaptation en Baldur’s Gate 3 ontving Best Community Support.

De uitslag onderstreept hoe een sterke indieproductie kan concurreren met grote studio’s en mogelijk de lat hoger legt voor toekomstige AAA-titels.
